Improvements in Glass Technology

Glass, we all know what it is, we all have it in our homes. But, how much has it changed? How important is it? What makes certain designs different?

Temperature regulation is an incredibly important factor when it comes to ensuring you can use all areas of your home no matter the weather, especially if there is lots of glass around. Outdated conservatories have been known to suffer from an ‘oven’ or ‘freezer’ effect, becoming too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. In turn, this makes them unusable at times.

Thanks to innovations in the glass over the last few years, you can now build beautiful glazed extensions, orangeries and conservatories with amazing views without having to worry about the ambient temperature.  If you have an old conservatory, you’ll be amazed at how much difference a glass upgrade will have on the usability of your conservatory.

At Ultraframe, we are always looking for ways to ensure that what we offer with our conservatories, orangeries, house extensions or replacement roofs leads the way.

This is exactly why we have developed Conservaglass, a high performing range of glass, from the self-cleaning glass through to temperature regulation. Conservaglass is a clear choice for enjoying a more comfortable living area throughout the year. You’ll also be able to choose from a wide range of colours to ensure you get the perfect fit.

Useful Considerations When Choosing the Right Performance Glass for your Home

Light Transmission: To avoid glare in a sunny room, you should consider glass with a low % light transmission, however, in shadier rooms this would not be appropriate. Ultra83Blue, highest performing glass of the Conservaglass range, only lets through 25% of the sun’s light.

Solar Rejection: If you have a south facing conservatory, you may want your glass to reject the sun’s heat to avoid the room over-heating, however, if your conservatory does not get much sun, you may not want a high solar rejection. Specify solar rejection between 51% and 83% with Conservaglass.

U-value w/m2:  A measure of how good the glass is at preventing heat loss to the outside – the lower the number the more thermally efficient the glass will be. To reduce heating bills, choose a glass with a better U-value. Conservaglass has a U-value of between 1.0 and 1.2.

UV Protection: To protect your furnishings from fading you’ll need UV protection in your glass – the higher the better. Conservaglass UV protection % ranges from 78% to 92% depending on the specification you choose

This year-round comfort is also complemented by a high degree of practicality. All Conservaglass products are self-cleaning enabling you to enjoy a clear and crisp glass quality without any of the headaches that come with cleaning chores. This is made possible by using the sun’s heat to cause a chemical reaction that safely burns the dirt off the surface, enabling it to be washed away by the rain.

Conservaglass is also accompanied by a 10-year guarantee for your complete peace of mind and every unit is toughened, double safety glass.
