Ultrasky Flat Skylight FAQ's

An orangery roof is a flat roof which has one or more lantern roof windows to bring light into the room below.

There are many orangery options which can be added to an orangery design so that it suits a modern home. These include flat cornices or parapet features externally to give strong, clean lines, as well as bi-fold doors. The colour of an orangery roof can also have a great bearing on whether it suits a modern home - anthracite grey is very popular right now for windows, doors and conservatory roofs and would be the perfect colour choice for a modern orangery.

A thermal break or thermal barrier is an element of low thermal conductivity placed in an assembly to reduce or prevent the flow of thermal energy between conductive materials. The Ultrasky Flat Skylight has a fully insulated uPVC frame which sits inside an aluminium surround, meaning that it not only acts as a thermal break but also offers superior thermal efficiency.

Ultrasky Flat Skylight weighs 33kg/m2 (based on the internal sizes).

The biggest factor in determining how long an orangery will take to build is the base work. The time to create an orangery base can vary dependent on the ground conditions and whether piled foundations are needed. Once the base is completed, an orangery should be able to be built within just a couple of weeks.

Yes an orangery will add value to your home as it will not only add valuable extra living space, but an orangery is also a highly desirable home improvement. The amount of value it will add to your home will depend on a large number of factors such as the area you live in, your existing home, and the style and specification of orangery.

The ‘click-fit’ technology of the Ultrasky Flat Skylight means that fitting times can be as quick as 10 minutes by a professional with the correct tools.

No - orangeries are not cold in winter, in fact they are very warm. Orangery roofs are highly thermally efficient, meaning that orangeries are warm and comfortable, whatever the time of year.

*The Ultrasky Flat Skylight is designed to meet current British Standards for overhead glass installed less than 5m above the finished floor level (it is not designed to be walked on). British Standards state that inner panes on overhead glass units must be laminated in applications over 5m above floor level (increased to 13m in limited circumstances) or are located over a body of water (such as swimming pools).

The use of toughened inner glass panes in other applications below 5m above the finished floor level is permitted in British Standards, although a risk assessment should be carried out and confirmation provided that this does not present additional risk to those below the rooflight.
