Gorgeous Gable Conservatory Transformation

Background

Mr & Mrs Churchill live in a detached house with a woodgrain Edwardian style conservatory which they wanted to update into something which looked more modern and which was more energy efficient, enabling them to use it all year round.

After finding the Ultraroof tiled roof system while doing research online, they knew this was the system for them and using the internet, soon found their local Ultra Installer – Durham Design.

Durham Design listened carefully to what the Churchill family wanted to achieve and together they decided to remove the existing house wall to create an open plan space and replace the conservatory with a stunning new extension that would achieve all their aims.

The old conservatory was removed and replaced with a stunning gable-fronted extension, featuring an Ultraroof tiled roof and super-insulated columns. Ultraroof offers the beautiful aesthetics of a tiled roof from the outside, coupled with a plastered interior to give a room-like feel.

Aims of the conservatory transformation project

Explaining more about the stunning conservatory transformation, Mrs Churchill told us: “We already had a conservatory that wasn’t working for us as an all year round space. We thought about having a new roof but decided that it would be better for our needs to have a more permanent solution in the form of an extension. The look of an Ultraframe extension appealed to us as it was something a bit different and unlike any other extensions we had seen before. The insulation it was able to provide, while still having plenty of glass to let in the light from above and around it was also very important. Ultraroof offered us everything we were looking for.”

It’s all in the detail

Ultraroof is fantastic as it offers a huge range of styles, as well as many options for personalisation as Mrs Churchill explained: “We were looking on the internet for images of extensions and all of the ones we liked were by Ultraframe. With Ultraroof there are lots of options in terms of size and style which allowed us to create an extension that’s a very bespoke addition to our home.”

Finding the conservatory installer for you

“Once we knew that we wanted an Ultraframe extension, we set about finding our nearest Ultraframe installer and found Durham Design, who thankfully were not too far away. Their customer service was very good indeed and we would recommend them without question, in fact they became like part of the family! They were courteous at all times, had lots of ideas as we went along and were always tidy. Every evening they would leave the site as clear as they possibly could ready for a speedy start the following day. Everything was done right and to a high standard. We didn’t feel rushed and we were confident that the work was of a high quality. We would certainly recommend Ultraframe too and the Ultraroof system – it allowed us to have our beautiful extension installed in a fraction of the time that it would have taken to have one built using timber and tiles.”

Changing your life one conservatory at a time

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the new Ultraroof extension has changed the family’s life, as Mrs Churchill explained: “Before we had the extension done, we were actually thinking of moving but not anymore - we love it! It is used as a sitting room/garden room and we are in it most of the day because it is so warm and light. We’ll probably be in it all day in the summer months when the nights are longer. The extension has created an all year round insulated living space which has joined seamlessly onto our existing home. It is a permanent part of the house and never has to be avoided because it’s too cold. We are now living in a space that we just didn’t use much previously; it has given us an alternative space which we love. We have teenagers and this section of the house can be closed off for them to chill out or have friends round whilst we go into the lounge. It also works well when people want to watch different things on TV!”

The WOW factor

Summing up about their new Ultraroof extension, Mrs Churchill’s closing words were: “Our new extension is something a bit different that really has the wow factor! We have had lots of family and friends come to see it and that’s exactly what they say - wow! The outside has also created a stir with the neighbours and we have even had one person knock at the door to ask who did our fabulous extension!! The super insulated columns are a talking point too - everyone loves these and of course, they help to keep our new living space warm.”
