A fresh approach to an ageing conservatory

When the Crawford family decided it was time to replace their existing conservatory, the reason was simple: although the structure was still sound, it no longer suited the way they wanted to use their home.

At 23 years old, the original Ultraframe conservatory had served them well, but it was beginning to look tired and dated. More importantly, the layout did not provide the right space or easy access to the garden that the homeowners were looking for.

Rather than simply update the existing conservatory, they chose to create a more practical, modern extension that would improve the connection between their home and outdoor space.

The project, installed by KJM Group, replaced an old polycarbonate Victorian roof conservatory with a beautiful Ultraframe Flat Roof extension.

The finished design features two pitched lanterns within the roof, allowing natural light to flood into the space, while a large set of bi-folding doors across the front helps open the room up to the garden.

The new space is now primarily used as a dining area, creating a much better flow between the kitchen, living areas, and garden.

Mr Crawford said:

“We love the space and access it provides. The new layout has changed how we use our home, making garden access much easier and encouraging us to spend more time enjoying the outdoor area. Temperature control has also been a major benefit. Even on very hot days, the room remains cool and comfortable, making it a far more usable space throughout the year than the original conservatory.”

The result is a modern, practical living space that feels like a natural part of the home, while still making the most of light, views, and easy garden access.
