Durham Design: Orangery Proves a Hit

From little acorns do huge oaks grow – that could be the business mantra of Durham Design partners Jill and Kevin Chatt. Based in the North East as the name suggests, they have been enjoying all the benefits of our market-leading orangery systems, which has proved to be a noticeable hit throughout their customer base.

Interestingly, their biggest ever project – two lantern style Orangery roofs – came as a direct result of a lead from a consumer visiting Ultraframe’s web site and finding Durham Design, who have been long standing Ultraframe customers. The combination of a leading orangery system and professional installation proving to be a winning combo.

This stands testimony to the orangery we offer, which is a contemporary update on the traditional ‘must-have’ status symbol of the wealthy. Orangeries intelligently bring harmony between structure and glazing, allowing you to enjoy all the aspects of a conservatory with a heightened degree of grandeur and space.

Kevin and Jill were very pleased to be openly invited to participate in making the Ultraframe Orangery package even more complete – critiquing the elements and components through working on site with Ultraframe’s technical support engineers. This allowed them to achieve a bespoke offering across the board.

This direct and constructive feedback led to Ultraframe creating new tooling for the GRP ‘lead look a like’ flat roofing system. Essentially, Ultraframe supply the complete package above lintel height including insulated box gutter, breathable vapour barrier, slab insulation, posi-joists and cassette deck – and of course the glass lantern roof.

All that isn’t supplied is the lead flashing, plasterboard and quilt insulation (neither is the bricks, mortar or copings!). Everything is cut and prepped and pre-built at Ultraframe’s factory before delivery to site – the product comes too with a comprehensive installation guide, something fitters have come to expect from the leading roof provider.

Our high performance super-insulated columns allow this orangery design to remain warm and comfortable throughout the year, despite the fact that the windows and doors comprise a large glazing area. This combines with a perimeter ceiling that can be fitted up to 1.2m wide for a warm and comfortable addition to any home.

Classic Orangery

Classic orangeries feature solid brick pillars, a high performance glass roof and a wide array of traditional finishing touches for you to enjoy. This includes a curved Cornice that adds a beautiful sense of style and shape throughout the build.  Quick to install and high performance throughout, this orangery system is a fantastic choice.

Due to its timeless aesthetic, the classic orangery style is easily tailored to suit a wide range of properties, including modern, heritage, traditional, period or new build. Lantern Orangery
