Mr Bayes lived in a picturesque detached bungalow in Cumbria and decided to have a conservatory installed so that he could make the most of the stunning views from his home. He chose an Ultraframe Victorian style conservatory with white frames and a Conservaglass glass roof.

Mr Bayes was extremely impressed with his Conservaglass conservatory roof. It kept his conservatory cool on warm Summer days and warm during winter. In fact, he was so impressed with Conservaglass that he also had Ultraframe replace all the windows in his home!

Since having the conservatory installed, it has become Mr Bayes' main living area - he tends to use his sitting room very rarely now, as his new room is such a beautiful place to relax (thanks, in part to his high-performing conservatory roof that helps maintain a perfect temperature 24/7).

Mr Bayes had never had a conservatory before and has been extremely impressed with the choice he made from Ultraframe. He is now thinking of adding a ceiling fan to his conservatory for a decorative touch and to help keep him cool while he relaxes in his newfound living space.

How to Make the Most of Your Conservatory

The short case study we included above really highlights the important part glass plays in the design of a conservatory. You’ll also need to think carefully about a range of other important factors – like choosing the right doors, windows and conservatory roof.

Here are a few tips to bear in mind before parting with your hard-earned money.

What Will You Use Your Conservatory For?

This is the first and most important question you need to answer. Will your conservatory be used as a place to relax in or for entertaining? Once you’ve decided what purpose your new room will be used for, it’s time to have a look at different designs. The design you choose will depend on available space. As a guide, a lean-to conservatory is ideal for small homes as it’s rectangular or square and wastes no square inch. A P-shaped format is ideal for large homes and can be split into designated areas.

Whichever conservatory design you select, you’ll be able to achieve your objectives. For example, a lean-to can be transformed into a cosy lounge area that you can relax in or use for entertaining when friends or family come to visit for drinks or an evening meal.

What Ultraframe Roof is Most Suitable?

Ultraframe offers a range of high-performing roof systems, which are compatible with most designs of conservatory. This means we’re an ideal choice for homeowners who want to replace their existing one.

When you talk to your approved Ultra Installer, ask them about the following:

Replacement Glass Roof

If you like glazing, you’ll derive great benefit from our glass conservatory roof. Featuring Conservaglass throughout, this design blocks out glare and most solar rays – which means your new room will be the perfect temperature always.

Livinroof

Enjoy the thermal benefits of this solid conservatory roof system, but without having to sacrifice light. The aluminium sections in the roof can be replaced with shaped glazing anywhere you please, which means you’ll able to focus the light where it’s needed.

Creating a beautiful interior that’s in line with the design of your home will be achievable with the Livinroof. A vaulted or suspended ceiling can be added, depending on whether you want to create a cosy feel or continue the ceiling height from an adjoining room

Lifestyle

Ultraroof

Not dissimilar in design to the Livinroof, the solid sections in the Ultraroof also allow for the introduction of Velux windows. You’ll also be able to choose between traditional or aluminium roof tile capping for the ridge and hips of your new Ultraframe roof.

The ceiling inside the Livinroof is plastered and vaulted to create a sense of space. It can also accommodate lights and speakers. The external fascia boards can be decorated in different colours to match your current window frames and ensure continuity of design.

Other Considerations

Also, think about:

  • Doors and windows. Bi-fold or sliding patio doors are ideal if you want to open your home to the outside and use your conservatory for entertaining. Tilt and turn windows are great at catching side breezes and will help ventilate your room.
  • Planning Permission. A conservatory is viewed these days as a permissible development, but it’s still important to run your ideas past your approved Ultra Installer. They will be able to verify whether your preferred design is likely to be approved.
