Ultraframe have complied this manual to explain and translate much of the jargon used in the conservatory industry. We have listed many of the commonplace words and terms used daily in connection with conservatory design and installation.

Gable beam
Also known as: Eaves beam lintelA gable beam is a unique lintel which carries a gable infil frame above the eaves to add strength (lean-to or gable front conservatory).
Gable style roof
Also known as: Garage styleWhen a conservatory has a square of rectangular floor space (not faceted/rounded) and a ridge which runs the full length of the projection, it is described as a gable style. The result is a triangular end which stands upright rather then hipping (sloping) backwards, like the gable end of a house.
Gallows brackets
Also known as: Structural support armsGallows brackets are used to support the underneath of a box gutter. They are used for polycarbonate roofs over 4.5m in width or projection and glass roofs over 3.0m in width or projection. Gallows brackets are a decorative alternative to traditional brick piers which perform the same function.
Gasket
Also known as: Neoprene, Q Lon, WedgeA gasket is a strip of rubber applied to one of two connecting surfaces (usually PVC) for form a watertight seal. A co-extruded gasket is a gasket that is fixed to the PVC profile at the time of manufacture. On a conservatory a gasket can be found running down the length of the glazing bars to form a seal between the glazing bar and the glazing material.

GGF
Also known as: Glass & Glazing FederationThe GGF are the leading industry trade body, supporting companies working in the glass and glazing industry. Ultraframe have a strong relationship with the GGF and have several members of staff who are members. The Conservatory Association is a subsidiary body of the GGF.
Glass clip
Also known as: Glazing retention, glass stopA glass clip is a mechanically fixed 2-part clip, attached to the glazing bar end, which restrains sealed glass units.
Glass Line
Also known as: Glazing linePoint at which glass becomes visible above floor level.
Glassex
Also known as: Window, door & conservatory trade showGlassex is the annual exhibition for the glass and glazing industry, which takes place at the Birmingham NEC each year.
Glazing bar
Also known as: Rafter, roof bar, sparA glazing bar is a bar which supports the glazing material between the ridge/wallplate and the eaves beam.
Groundwork
Also known as: Dig, footingsPreparation required underground for relevant footing requirement.
Gully
Also known as: DrainSurface drain which collects 'clean' water from rain water pipes.
Gutterbond
Also known as: Gutter sealantGutterbond is a special sealant for sealing in boxgutter adaptors.
